Ongoing Professional Development

New Winter 2020 Engineering GSIs and EECS IAs are required to participate in ongoing professional development (OPD).

To fulfill your OPD requirement, you must complete one of the following three activities. Please register for your OPD selection below. For questions about requirements, please contact Krista Quinn <kristaqu@umich.edu> from the Office of the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education.

1. Active Learning Practice 

This session offers an opportunity to practice active learning techniques by presenting a lesson to a small peer group. Prior to the session, please prepare a 10-minute active learning lesson on an introductory topic in your field. More information on how to prepare for Active Learning Practice, and where to go, can be found here.

2. Midterm Student Feedback (MSF) + Written Reflection 

You may participate in a Midterm Student Feedback (MSF) session with one of our helpful Engineering Teaching Consultants (ETC)You will work with an ETC to gather and discuss feedback from your students to help you build on your teaching strengths and improve the class. Requests for a Winter 2020 MSF session will open at the start of classes. You must upload your written reflection to Canvas by Friday, March 27, 2020. The final date to request an MSF will be Friday, February 21, 2020

3. CRLT-Engin or CRLT Seminar + Written Reflection 

Register for a CRLT-Engin or CRLT seminar that has been approved for this term, listed below. After attending, submit a written reflection about the strategies you learned during the workshop and how you can apply one strategy to your current or future teaching. Upload your written reflection to Canvas by Friday, March 27, 2020.
